- Introduction:
- -------------
-
- MegaWatt is a multi-featured desk accessory. It provides about 10
- distinct functions in one package. It originally started as a tool
- to enhance our development systems (Megamax C and Personal Pascal)
- but has evolved into a tool that we feel every Atari ST owner
- will find beneficial. (It should add 'MegaWatts' of power to your
- ST.) As an extra bonus, it only eats up one desk accessory slot,
- leaving room for 5 more. Compare this to Atari's Control Panel and
- VT52 emulator which eat up 4 slots, leaving only 2 for others.
-
- Because we are developing this product for a mass market, we would
- like to include features that would be useful to most Atari ST
- users. The purpose of this demo is to get some user feedback
- regarding the kind of functionality you'd like to see in an
- accessory, and to provide ideas for changes and improvements to
- the existing ones.
-
- Since this is meant to be a demo, we couldn't put in all the
- functionality we wanted to; otherwise we wouldn't be able to sell
- it later on. The MegaWatt Demo intentionally occupies a lot of
- memory to limit its practical use. We will put in a config file to
- allow you to de-select unwanted options to save memory.
-
-
- System Requirements:
- --------------------
-
- We've tested it with 520s, 1040s, and Mega 4s, color and mono,
- floppy and hard disk boots, and they all worked. If you have a
- modem or printer hooked up, that's fine. MegaWatt works with them
- too.
-
-
- Installing MegaWatt:
- --------------------
-
- Place the following files in your boot directory (A:\ on floppy,
- C:\ on a hard disk):
- - MEGAWATT.ACC
- - MEGAWATT.RSC
- - DIAL.DIR (optional)
-
- You may also want to place MEGABOOT.PRG in your \AUTO directory.
- See MEGABOOT.TXT for more info.
-
- Using MegaWatt:
- ---------------
-
- Once selected from the desktop, MegaWatt produces a title page
- which displays the current time and date, free RAM, the mousetrap
- setting, 6 functions, a help button, and an exit button.
-
- If you press Help or select HELP, you will enter Help Mode. At
- that point, anything that is clicked will produce a help screen.
- To exit Help Mode, press or select HELP again.
-
- WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND USING THE HELP SCREENS. We know that no one
- really reads DOC files anyway. But, just in case, here are a few
- bits of information.
-
-
- The Mousetrap:
- --------------
-
- Tired of accidentally sliding into the menu bar? The mousetrap
- prevents the mouse from sliding into the menu bar, and can only
- enter if you press the right button. This is similar in operation
- to other mousetraps, except that this one can be switched on and
- off, and has an additional 'wraparound' mode. Try it.
-
- Calc : The Calculator
- -----------------------
-
- Self explanatory.
-
-
- Colors
- ------
-
- This allows you to change screen colors, similar to the way the
- real Control Panel does.
-
- CLI : The Command Line Interface
- --------------------------------
-
- Stuck in an editor that won't let you save a file because the disk
- is full. Or it doesn't let you do a disk directory? Just pop into
- the CLI and perform all of your DOS functions (well not ALL of
- them. This is a demo after all.)
-
- Editor
- ------
-
- This is a multi-buffer text editor. For this demo, you can't load
- and save files (that would be TOO useful) nor can you access the
- menu bar options it has. But you've seen an editor before, so you
- get the general idea.
-
- MegaBlit
- --------
-
- This is MegaBlit 3.0, a successor to the previous stand-alone
- versions. If you have DEGAS ELITE loaded, and then call MegaWatt,
- you can access the DEGAS screens and edit them. This allows you to
- do things like cutting desktop screens to the internal buffer
- (screen 0) and then later pasting it into a DEGAS picture. Or,
- vice versa. Only the line commands are available in the demo.
-
- Control : Control Panel for the modem and printer
- -------------------------------------------------
-
- This lets you set baud rate, configure your printer, and autodial
- BBSs. Select the dialer, then click on all the BBS you want to try
- to dial. MegaWatt then dials them in order, over and over again,
- until it connects. It then beeps like crazy to alert you. A
- standard DIAL.DIR file from FLASH can be used, or a text file can
- be created. See the supplied sample DIAL.DIR for more info.
-
-
-
- Well, that's it. If you've bothered reading this far,
- congratulations. Try MegaWatt and let us know what you'd like to
- see put in.
-
- And don't forget to upload this whole demo to a BBS that doesn't
- have it.
